 3. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

a. Has a minimum Certificate of Competency Class 2 (Deck) or (Engine);

b. Citizen or permanent resident of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is an advantage;

c. Has a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in maritime or equivalent in related field as determined by the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD). Having higher qualification is an advantage; and

d. Has a minimum ten (10) years of working experience in maritime industry administration / shipping / ports or in related field.

4. OTHER REQUIREMENTS

a. Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of MPABD Order 2017, Merchant Shipping Order 2002 and the subsidiary legislation, including knowledge of Brunei Darussalam waters and port limit areas;

b. Must be proficient in English and Malay languages;

c. Skilled in Information Technology (IT);

d. Has knowledge in the Islamic religion, national customs, Bruneian culture, social, economic and political development of Brunei Darussalam; and

e. Applicants who have a professional qualification or become a member of the Nautical Institute or equivalent institute are one of the advantages.

 5. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     The Port Master/Director of Marine shall be responsible:

a. To ensure the administration and management of Marine and Ports Department including to advise the Authority on maritime and port related matters;

b. To ensure safe and efficient maritime and port operations;

c. To lead a team of experienced and trained maritime professionals;

d. To advise the Government on all matters relating to maritime transport and the provision of marine and port services and facilities;

e. To facilitate the discharge of international obligations of the Government in respect of maritime transport;

f. To exercise the regulatory functions in respect of merchant shipping, particularly in the manning of vessels;

g. To perform such other functions as are conferred on the Authority by MPABD Order, 2017 or any other written law; and

h. To perform such other functions as instructed by the Authority or Chief Executive from time to time
